Benjy Fox-Rosen (Los Angeles, 1984) is a musician, composer, and researcher whose work bridges performance and scholarly inquiry in the field of Jewish music. Currently a Research Fellow at the Music and Minorities Research Center (Vienna), he investigates the intersection of music, minority studies, and migration, with particular focus on archival practices and institutional change.
Fox-Rosen was conductor of the historic Vienna Stadttempel Choir from 2017-2024, which was also the subject of his 2023 master's thesis in ethnomusicology (University of Vienna). His compositions and artistic interventions, including commissioned works for choirs and audio-installations, have been performed at the Arnold Schönberg Center, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Wiener Festwochen and the Musikverein. He has produced three recordings of his own music, two of which were recognized by the Forward in the top-five Jewish music albums of the year category. A Fulbright scholar (Moldova, 2012-2013), Fox-Rosen has taught workshops at institutions such as the New England Conservatory, Yiddish New York, and Yiddish Summer Weimar. As a performer, he is active at international festivals across Europe and North America. |
